Kiehl’s is a brand that I’ve consistently used over time. From their Moisturizing Oil Eliminator to their Facial Fuel with SPF, I also currently use their Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream. As experimental as I have been with both niche and larger brands one aspect of my regimen, which stays the same, is double cleansing and something I’ve had a more conservative approach towards.
Recently at an In-store event for Kiehl’s I was told to try the Clearly Corrective Brightening and Exfoliating Daily Cleanser. I have mentioned that I’m not a fan of brightening products in general, but since this did act as both a cleanser and exfoliator I decided to give it a try.
Sometimes when products are marketed as both an exfoliator and cleanser there might be an imbalance where in the product has an higher efficacy as a cleanser but not an exfoliator and vice versa. This was another reason I was keen to try this particular product to see how both aspects combine.
The basis of this cleanser is to assist in filtering the skin from environmental pollutants whilst enhancing skin clarity. If one of your complaints is dull skin, large pores or uneven texture, Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser is something I’d highly recommend. The Cleanser can be used for various skin types although works best on oily skin.
(I now pair this cleanser with Keihl’s moisturizing Oil Eliminator)
The product itself promotes White Birch and Pearlstone along with peony and lavender Oil. The leaf and bark extract from the white birch tree is known for both its soothing and purification properties. It has anti-inflammatory properties and also works as a natural astringent. Pearlstone is where the exfoliating properties comes in as it’s a byproduct of volcanic ash and is also where the texture seems granular prior to application. Salicylic Acid assists in acne fighting and although the Citrus Acid has unique anti aging properties, when speaking to people with sensitive skin they mentioned the detectable citrus acid wasn’t the best fit for them. Peony, which is used in an array of skincare formulations, also protects the skin from inflammation.
Even though it is supposed to unscented, I detected a strong citrus fragrance prior to using. When it comes to application the formula is both thick and granular and since its rather un-buffered it could cause irritation to people having sensitive skin (even though it is marketed towards all skin types)
The white creamy gel foams up really quickly with very small amounts of water and as a cleaner, after washing gave me an immediate feeling of freshness. The mix of white birch, pearlstone, salicylic and citrus acid really leave your skin feeling very fresh. Because of the fact that the cleanser is made for removing excess oil, pollutants and dirt it definitely gave me the feeling of having immediately rejuvenating my skin. There were noticeable differences in terms of clarity and whitehead reduction in my T-Zone post usage of only a few days.
Its good to keep in mind if people do have dry skin, that anytime you do exfoliate your going to further dry out your skin which is why with dry or sensitive skin types, I would recommend the cleanser to be used twice or maybe thrice a week. Also being both an exfoliator and a cleanser I find that this product has more cleaning properties and doesn’t exfoliate as much so if your looking for through exfoliation you might consider buying a separate exfoliator altogether.
If your looking for a cleanser and not overly fussy about the excess exfoliation this is something I would most definitely recommend. Packed with lavender oil and waft’s of citrus, the mixture of a soothing fragrance with active acne and pollutant fighting ingredients is definitely worth a try.
