Lakme Fashion Week has set a benchmark as India’s premier fashion week and has become a reference point for the country’s fashionistas. It is a collaborative effort of Lakme, a premium cosmetic brand and distinguished IMG Reliance Ltd. The forecast shows of summer/ resort collection in January/ February and winter/ festive in the month of August sets the trends for the coming season in the field of fashion and beauty.
Last season the emergence of the 80’s trends of wavy hair and glossy makeup. Highlighters rode an all-time high, thick eyebrows made a welcome come back. Purple was the color of the season leaving its trail behind for the stylists to follow and include it in their makeovers. In garments, makeup, accessories and hair color.
Lakme Fashion Week 2019 started with aplomb on 29th Jan 2019 with an opening show by Gaurav Gupta and the magnificent Opera House. With an opulently staged show, the designer through his futuristic sensibilities revealed the season’s look of sculpted fabrics, flowing gown in pastels shades. The look was offset with makeup influence from the fabulous 50’s. Winged eyeliner and rouge lips in perfect sync with trendy metallic eye shadows, hair drawn in wavy voluminous buffons.
Day 1 was a witness to some fantastic creations and commendable makeup looks. The looks that caught my fancy were firstly from designer duo Gauri and Nainika who chose to go with a monochromatic makeup look in hues of earthy red, for their beautiful French Riviera Collection and secondly from Varun Behl who launched his new pretline in elegant whites and contrasting it was a soon to become a raging trend in eye makeup. Floral patterns in pastels covering the corner of the eyes and hair knotted up in cool buns. A perfect look for a bright sunny day definitely deserves a thumbs up.
The excitement has just started, there is yet much more to come to feast our eyes with. Every day will aquatint us to a new trend. Along with some young new and not so, new talent will be the fashion masters like Rohit Bal, Anita Dongre, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Payal Singhal, Ashish Soni, Shivam & Naresh, Raghavendra Rathore, Kunal Rawal and Nikhil Thampi defining trends for the season.
Makeup looks will play an important role in completing the desired looks. We hope to see some firing trends of 2019 on the ramp. Like shimmery jewel tones of, Scarlett, Ruby, Emeralds, Blue Sapphire, Purple amethyst.
Metallic makeup would be a great choice for the season 20’s wavy hair on the forehead, soft smokey eyes and dark burgundy lips for that sexy flapper look will become a rage again.
Futuristic sculpted hair and monochromatic makeup is the trend to look out for. Here’s hoping for a great new fashion fabulistic season. Watch out this space for more inside stories on makeup 2019.
